Proctor made a very humanly mistake in the beginning

John Proctor is one of the main characters in The Crucible. Because of his charter flaw and his struggle to do what is right, John Proctor is a tragic hero.

He is a sensible, honest, and hardworking man who made the mistake of succumbing to lust which sets off a chain of events that leads to the witch trials, and to his own demise. He is a puritan, a husband, a citizen, and an all around valuable member of the community.

Inevitably, John Proctor possesses that fateful attribute known to fall fatal to many human beings - pride It was the ultimate trial of determination and willpower to withstand such a wretched ordeal.
